ABOUT THIS PROJECT
We were asked to demonstrate the benefits of Closed Transition Star/Delta Soft Starting vs the standard Open Transition Star/delta Soft Starting for Peak Rate Billing on a Building in London.
Using our Oscilloscope toolkit with LEM DC Current Transformers, we captured the common Start Phase and then the subsequent comparison between both styles of starters. It can be seen that the Open Transition Starter had a Peak Current of 1761 Amps (1245 Amps RMS) at point of change-over. The Closed Transition Starter had a Peak Current of 743 Amps (525 Amps RMS).
It was demonstrated that there was a beneficial current reduction factor during start-up and transition in the order of 2.37.
